Welcome to the project website for the Highway 21 Bridge Replacement over the Bayfield River, in the Village of Bayfield, Ontario. This website has been initiated to share project information and collect comments as part of the Class Environmental Assessment Study.
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) has retained the services of McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers (McIntosh Perry) to complete all Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) activities under a Group ‘C’ undertaking as required for the Environmental Clearance for the replacement of the Bayfield River Bridge (Site 12-188).
This Detailed Design and Class EA study is a continuation of a Preliminary Design and Class EA study that was previously conducted to address the aging infrastructure (November, 2016). As part of the Preliminary Design and Class EA, alternative bridge design options were developed and evaluated based on engineering and environmental factors. As a result of this evaluation, a preferred bridge design, referred to as the Technically Preferred Alternative (TPA), was selected. During Detailed Design, McIntosh Perry reviewed this TPA, as well as other options, and recommended a single-span half-through arch bridge.
